  • Cool on: Cooling system is on.
  • Heat on: Heating system is on.
  • Em: Emergency heat is on.

When Cool On/Heat On is flashing, compressor protection is engaged (see page 10).

Built-in compressor protection

Honeywell Home-RTH3100C-Non-Programmable-Digital-Thermostat-FIG.15

This feature helps prevent damage to the compressor in your air conditioning or heat pump system.
Damage can occur if the compressor is restarted too soon after shutdown. This feature forces the compressor to wait 5 minutes before restarting.
During the wait time, the display will flash the message Cool On or Heat On. When the safe wait time has elapsed, the message stops flashing and the compressor turns on.

Battery replacement

Honeywell Home-RTH3100C-Non-Programmable-Digital-Thermostat-FIG.16 Honeywell Home-RTH3100C-Non-Programmable-Digital-Thermostat-FIG.17

Batteries are optional if your thermostat was wired for AC power when installed. Install fresh batteries immediately when the REPLACE BATT warning begins flashing.
Even if the warning does not appear, you should replace batteries once a year, or before leaving home for more than a month.
Batteries provide backup power to the display during power interruptions. All settings are permanently stored in memory and do not require battery power.
