MAINTAINING YOUR THERMOSTAT
REPLACING THE BATTERY
Your thermostat uses a 9 V alkaline battery as a backup to hold the program in case of a power outage. For best results, replace the battery every 5 years.
To replace:
- Open the right-hand thermostat door.
- Remove the battery from the battery holder and battery connector.
- Press the battery connector onto a fresh 9 V alkaline battery. Place the battery in the battery holder as shown.
RECALIBRATING THE THERMOSTAT
Your thermostat should normally display the correct room temperature. In the rare event ofaninmrred display, the thermostat can be recalibrated as follows:
- Make sure the thermostat has been on for at least 2 hours.
- Place an accurate room thermometer near the left side of the thermostat. Be careful not to touch the thermometer or breathe on it.
- Open the left door of the thermostat.
- Locate the temperature adjustment screw.
- use a flat blade screwdriver to turn the screw slightly clockwise
to increase, or counterclockwise
to decrease the indicated temperature.
- After each turn, allow the thermostat to stabilize for about 30 seconds.
- Continue this procedure until the thermostat has the same temperature reading as the room thermometer.
THE “WAITING” INDICATOR DURING AIR CONDITIONING
To prevent possible damage to your compressor, and to maximize the efficiency of your air conditioning system, no controls can be activated for approximately 6 minutes after the compressor shuts off. If you try to override the temperature during this time, the display will show WAITING until the 6 minutes pass.
YOUR PERSONAL PROGRAM
Use the table below to plan your schedule before you begin programming. If you are programming a different schedule for each day of the week, fill an out-a different table for each day.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
- IF…
- The thermostat loses its program.
- The thermostat shows no display unless the HEAT or COOL key is held.
- The thermostat loses its program.
- THEN…
- Check for loose batteries.
- Check that the power switch is ON.
- Check that the power switch is ON.
- Check main switches, fuses, and circuit breakers on heating equipment to make sure the thermostat has power. The heating control circuit powers the thermostat even when it is controlling air conditioning equipment.
- Check the wiring connections to the thermostat.
- Make sure your system uses 24 Vat. The thermostat will not operate on a millivolt system.
- Jumper RC & Y or RH & W. If the system comes on, the thermostat needs replacement. If the system does not come on, a problem exists in the system (such as a transformer, relay, or valve).
- IF…
- The display goes blank less than 30 seconds before or after a furnace burn cycle.
- The display goes blank for several minutes during a long furnace burn cycle.
- The temperature display is incorrect
- The furnace or air conditioner operates continuously.
- The thermostat will not turn the heat or air conditioner on.
- The thermostat will not let you make a temperature setting.
- The thermostat will not let you make a temperature setting.
- The thermostat is not following your program but is maintaining a constant temperature.
- THEN…
- Your furnace is interrupting power to the thermostat. This is not a problem, as the 9 V alkaline battery will be adequate to carry the program for the entire heating season. Do NOT use a rechargeable battery.
- Check for dirty air filters or blocked registers. If registers are not blocked and the air filter is clean, an isolating relay probably needs to be installed on your heating system. See Table 1 in the installation manual, form number 69-8025.
- See “Recalibrating the Thermostat.
- Check the thermostat to see if it is wired properly.
- Check the furnace and air conditioning systems to make sure they are operating correctly.
- Check the circuit breaker on the heater or air conditioner to make sure it has power.
- Check that the pilot light/power is on; this thermostat “steals” power from the heating circuit.
- Verify wiring.
- Check if you have already made 6 settings. Check if you have already made 6 settings. A thermostat will not accept a seventh setting.
- Check if you have used all 8 available temperature combinations. A maximum of 8 heating and cooling combinations are allowed in total in your weekly program. The thermostat will not accept a ninth combination.
(Use the programming chart on page 31 to make sure you do not use any more settings or combinations than allowed.). - Your program has probably been lost. The thermostat will maintain the factory-set program (68° heat, 78° cool) until you reenter a new program.
