Thermostat Removal
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD.
Turn the power off before performing any electrical installation or maintenance activities. Failure to obey this warning could result in death or serious injury.
Label all wires before disconnecting when servicing.
- Turn the water heater switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the brown and red wires from the thermostat and the ECO terminal connections.
- Peel off the black foam cover and discard.
- Remove the washer, spring, and thermostat from behind the metal tabs on the water heater combustion pan.
Thermostat Installation
NOTICE: Do not operate the water heater without water in the tank.
- Facing the water heater, place the thermostat in the right cutout and the ECO in the left cutout.
- Place the spring and washer behind the metal tabs on the water heater combustion pan. The springs should hold the thermostat and ECO against the water heater tank.
- apply the new black foam cover.
- Connect the brown wires to the thermostat.
- Connect the red wires to the ECO.
- Turn on the water heater.
